La Mode à la Française remembers last year's the Posen's projects including twinkling Google Made with Code dress for Lupita Nyong'o. She wore it while promoting Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Undoubtedly, Posen has a history of taking on tech projects and he fully embraced this year's "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology" theme.
The design process started with draping - it's how Posen sculpt his dress. He started draping a month before; he researched the fabric and had it custom made in France, but he didn't actually receive the material until two weeks before the Met. He started draping with another fabric that had similar properties and qualities. He built an understructure with 30 battery packs sewn into the side to power the LED lights that were illuminating the fiber optic woven organza - it took over 500 hours total!
Very voluminous! Posen wanted to make sure it wasn't going to crease the fabric while Claire Danes was sitting in the car, which is why Posen team rented a mini bus for the ride there. Though it is possible to sit in the dress, Vogue actually cut off the arms of one of the chairs and turned it into a stool to make Claire's dining experience more enjoyable! Unbelievable!
The MetGala is the best opportunity to make people dream using fantasy and glamour to make people tap into their imagination! And La Mode à la Française loves it!
